The name Daft Punk (the electronic House duo, inspired by The Beach Boys from Paris circa 1992) comes from a review from UK’s Melody Maker which described their first project, Darling, as “a bunch of daft punk.”
Daft Punk is Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo (what a name!) and Thomas Bangalter, whom met while going to school in Paris .
Daft Punk eventually signed with Scottish label Soma Records and released several hits.
The Foo Fighters got their name from Dave’s sci-fi obsession. Dave heard about fire balls that were following WW2 pilots. The pilots thought the fire balls were German enemy-seeking weapons of some sort, and labeled them “fire fighters” using the French word for fire, which when spelt phonetically is Foo.
Dave also took inspiration from Sci-Fi for the name of his label Roswell Records. Roswell is a town in New Mexico where alleged alien bodies were found in a crashed UFO. Of course, the claims have been disputed and written off by the US government.

This song is the musical equivalent of a cold beer after a long day - it's just freaking awesome.
