Dan Mangan VS The Screaming Trees

This might be a bit off the deep end, but I'm willing to suggest that Dan Mangan may remind some of you, as he does me, of The Screaming Trees. I see the similarities in the vocals obviously, the melodic rough voice. The song that inspired this comparison? Road Regrets, obviously. In my opinion, this is what Dan Mangan sounds like in a grunge rock band form the 80's. Well, now we know.
Now go check out Road Regrets by our fellow Vancouverite!

Dan is playing LIVE AT THE VOGE Nov 13!

I saw Dan Mangan live twice in London, once up in Angel (North London) and once in Trafalgar Square for Canada Day. Both times the audience was basically 100% Canadian, if not entirely from BC, so obviously the energy at the shows was fantastic. At the Angel show in the little pub I walked up to Dan and said "Hey!" (I've known him since about 2006, but he definitely remembers me as So-and-So's girlfriend) and he said Hey, I told him "I'm here to see you!"... his answer? "... Good!" and that was that. Come on man, i went all the way to Angel! That's it? Mind you, he was a wanted man that night, and potentially a few beers in. I still think he's the nicest guy in the industry... well, maybe second to Dave Grohl.

What I'm listening to right now: well, I
was listening to Two Step by Dave Matthews from their well-known Crash album. Solid song.
This song is the musical equivalent of a hot day at the Gorge with good friends, it's those moments just before the band comes on stage and you're so excited because they're your favorite band and the crowd is wild and...    well, you get the picture.

I never considered this. You're totally right: Dan Mangan and Mark Lanegan of the Screaming Trees have that same great gravely low-mid to their voice that makes you shiver. I think you associate Dan with that grunge sound because of it, and it's true, which is what makes the magic in his music, and keeps him from sounding like just another folk-rock singer.

p.s: Check out the stuff Lanegan he did with Queens of the Stone Age, especially the song "Hanging Tree".
