The Victory Square Block Party came back this summer with an excellent line up.

THE PACK AD

The Pack A.D. owned the event, without a doubt. Their laid back Vancouver vibe lasts only until the speakers are turned on, and after that it's unadulterated musical genius. Becky Black, vocals and guitar, has an unreal voice. She belts out her lyrics with such power and such ease, it's ridiculous. She makes me think of Joan Jett. Maya Miller, drums, hits with such force and intensity that she'd give any of the best a run for their money. These women rock out insanely hard - I love this band.

THE TRANZMITORS

The tranzmitors made me think of Weezer's Buddy Holly music video. Picture the slicked down hair, skinny ties, white button-up shirts and nerdy cardigans. Their music's not far off either. They have a California power pop sound, I'd liken it to Weezer with a mix of The Clash's English punk.

The singer announced their song Deborah (which they rocked) with "this song is about my aunt's really nice pair." I just felt that needed to be in writing for those of you who did not get to enjoy their set. One of their best songs in the set was The Sun's Loneliest Day. Their music has a 60's vibe going on, with chilled out lyrics and an underground Beatles kind of feel.
