Genre: Rock, Folk Rock
Album: Broken Side Of Time, released September 2009, and two EP's released in 2007: The Thief and The Heartbreaker, & Leave Us or Forgive Us

Alberta Cross filled the Biltmore last night, which should come as no surprise as they are currently opening for acts like Them Crooked Vultures, The Shins, Oasis and Dave Matthews Band, and touring with Dead Confederate and Ben Harper, and rightly so. These guys hold their own. They're also signed to ATO, a label that likes to focus on growing a concertgoing fan base for their bands, in order to build staying power in the industry. Seeing as Dave Matthews Band has employed this strategy to become the top ticket-selling band in the world, (yep, the world) looks like Alberta Cross has got quite the future ahead of them.

Alberta Cross is currently based in Brooklyn, but originally hails from London, England. Petter Ericson Stakee, of Swedish heritage on vocals/guitar, and Terry Wolfers from East London, on bass, made the trek to New York in search of new musical horizons. Meanwhile, lead guitarist Sam Kearney of the American West Coast relocated to London, also in search of new opportunities in music, having not met his future band mates yet. I'm not going to finish this story because the necessary factors are already there. Swedish: I'm biased, I want to move there. East London: this is where it all starts: art, fashion, music. It's the epicenter of cool. Having the guts to relocate across the world in search of greener music pastures: that's hot. You can't lose with this combination. And the proof is in the music.

Their sound is not of a new band waiting to be discovered. They come across as a mature band with high expectations, of themselves and of their performance. Their album Broken Side of Time is slow and thoughtful where it needs to be, and fast-paced rock in songs like ATX. They sound something like Kings of Leon, only less produced I'd say. And less whiney. And they're not all related. They're a good time. This is a band to keep an eye on.
Listen for yourself...

On another note...
P.S. Random FYI: Third Eye Blind are still touring... with Marcy Playground (Sex and Candy)...I didn't expect that. Just keeping you informed.
