Click the title... it links to Ronatron-a record Vancouver's live indie music.. it's a good thing.
So I've determined that not enough people are in the loop.
Here are Vancouver's top 10 made simple, (as determined by me):
...In no particular order:
1. Dan Mangan 'Sold' is #13 on The Peak's top 30 songs right now. Forget being #1, that's old news for Dan, and not just in Van. P.S. The YouTube video I linked takes place at the world's #2 university: UCL (University College London). Forget the College Top 40, now THIS is noteworthy.
Dan's got two shows coming up, Nov 13 is sold out, TIX RELEASED TODAY for second date Nov 11!
2. Said The Whale They're playing September 4 | Squamish, BC | Live at Squamish Music Festival
3. Guilty About Girls 'Candy Candy' is #8 on The Peak's top 30 songs right now. It's my #1 right now.
4. We Are The City Ok, so they're from the Okanagan, but I'm keeping them on the list. They're sweet.
5. The Pack A.D. - Playing September 5 in Victory Sq! These girls killed it live! They will blow your mind, they're probably the hardest rocking band on this entire list.
6. Combine The Victorious a chilled out act, they are so nice, and interesting people too. I'll post my interview with them shortly.
7. Sex With Strangers
8. Hey Ocean I dunno man, they are solid, but I'm not hearing much about them anymore. Common team!
9. Japandroids They're playing with Dan Mangan on the back half of his US tour in September.
10. Black Mountain I know NOTHING about these people. for now... i'll work on it.
... I also need to mention Hannah Georgas. She's cool too.
This list seems a bit too folk/folk pop for my liking, but I'm still down. The Pack AD pull the punk weight, they're the best thing since sliced bread. The Pack A.D. is the musical equivalent to finding ten bucks in your pocket, an extremely solid find.
What I'm listening to right now:
SONG #1Broadway Calls' 'Be All That You Can't Be' from their album Good Views, Bad News.
SONG #2: Aaaand now I'm listening to Jimmy Eat World's new single 'My Best Theory' - and the verdict? well, the first time i heard was sitting in a car in gas town, which didn't really do it justice but I could tell it would be unbelievable live, or even with a solid setup. Yeah, good song. Sounds like J.E.W.-nothing new there. If you don't like it, turn it up... a lot, and give it another go.
